Reuse & Re-Testing

There is a growing need to address the end-of-life management of solar panels. Our re-use sector focuses on extending the lifespan of solar panels by refurbishing and repurposing them for a second life. This not only minimizes electronic waste but also contributes to a more circular economy. Reused solar panels find new life in various sectors, such as off-grid applications, community projects, and emerging markets where access to affordable energy is crucial.

Through our testing process we can identify panels that are still above 80% of their nameplate efficiency. These panels are then available to reuse at a much lower price than new panels giving everyone across the UK the chance to access green cheaper energy during this time with perpetually high energy prices.

Solar panel testing plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency, durability, and overall performance of photovoltaic systems. Working with Loughborough University we offer a testing process to see whether one client’s redundant solar panels are efficient enough for someone else’s needs. Rigorous testing procedures are employed to assess the functionality of the panels. This includes:

  1. Testing the panel under standard illumination conditions (STC AMG 1.5) to determine its efficiency.
  2. Infrared thermography to discover hotspots.
  3. Electroluminescence testing to detect microcracks and soldering issues.
  4. Electrical fault testing to test for faults to ground.

This procedure allows us to classify the overall health of the panel and determine if it can be safely reused and provide the client a complete picture of the assets status.

SRS are not only leading the way in providing 100% solar recycling in the UK but we are making green energy more accessible, contributing positively to the environment and the UK’s Net Zero targets
