Recycle End of Life Solar Panels
Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are an excellent source of clean, renewable energy — but like all products, they don’t last forever. Most manufacturers and industry experts estimate a lifespan of around 25–30 years, meaning the first generation of solar farms and domestic installations is now reaching the end of its life.
Alongside this natural ageing, a small proportion of panels are lost each year to breakages or premature failures. Under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013, PV panels are classed as electrical waste and cannot be sent to landfill. Responsible recycling is essential not only for environmental reasons, but also to remain compliant with UK legal requirements.
